Mille Miglia (1000 Miglia)
“1000 Miglia” means 1,000 miles (about 1,600 kilometers) in Italian.
It is one of the most world’s most famed automobile races, highly regarded within global automobile industry as “the most beautiful race in the world.”
Mille Miglia was born on March 26, 1927 in Brescia, Italy. It has since come to be much more than a simple automobile race.
The event serves as a symbol of the identity of Italy, as an international showcase for design and innovation, and as a venue for ongoing experimentation that connects the past with the future.
Born in 1927 from a vision to bring speed to public roads, it quickly became the most legendary race in the world, attracting top-flight drivers and prestigious automobile manufacturers.
The race continued for thirty years until 1957 when major accidents led Italian authorities to cancel the event, bringing a glorious three-decade history to a close.
Twenty years later in 1977, however, a major change occurred.
The race was revived as a Regularity rally and underwent a transformation into a journey through the soul of イタリア, becoming an adventure race that fuses emotion, beauty, and passion. Over 400 historically famed automobiles now run from Brescia to Rome over a two-way, five-day course covering 1,600 kilometers.
* Regularity rally: A race that awards victory not to the fastest competitor but to the one that most accurately observes a set time and average speed.
* Eligible vehicles: Participation in the race is limited to vehicle models that participated in or completed races held between 1927 and 1957.
